Miri and few of the other girls from the Princess Academy
are headed to the capitol city for the wedding of Britta and the prince. Miri is going to study at the Queen’s
Academy and Pedar is coming along to apprentice as a stone carver. When they arrive however, they find the
capitol is on the verge of chaos – the King’s increasing demand of tributes has
made not only the poor, the Shoeless, boiling with anger, but the other leaders
and nobles have had enough and the small delegation arrives just in time to
witness an assassination attempt.
Miri just wants to learn, to see her dear friend wed and build a life
with Pedar, but now she is pulled in many directions and her fresh eyes may be
the only things to save an entire country.
Hale has gone deep for her sequel to her brilliant
novel. I can’t imagine younger
readers of Princess Academy understanding most of what she writes this time,
but girls who read Princess Academy when it first came out are more than old
enough for this.
