Melonhead and the Vegalicious Disaster by Katy Kelly - ADVISABLE

Kelly, Katy, Melonhead and the Vegalicious Disaster. Delacorte Press, 2012. Pgs. 224.

Language: G, Violence: G, Sexual Content: G

On the first day of fifth grade, Sam Jonique, Lucy Rose, and Melonhead were given a homework assignment by their teacher. Now they feel doomed at school. Soon Melonhead feels doomed at home, too. His mom not only wants him to not move a toe without checking the Remind-O-Rama or Melon Family Guidelines for Life, she wants him to eat more vegetables. Melonhead and his friends discover a way to make the yucky vegetable-hidden food, but soon their plan backfires and the house stinks. Can Melonhead survive his report about a dead guy and get his mom to quit bugging about eating vegetables?

A quirky, funny book for reluctant readers. The characters and plot are entertaining. The illustrations complement the text. Readers who liked the other books in the Melonhead series or enjoy humorous fiction will enjoy reading this book.
