Chico the Brave by Dave Horowitz - ADVISABLE

Horowitz, Dave  Chico the Brave  Nancy Paulsen Books, 2012.  $16.99 PICTURE BOOK Content: G.

Chico is a scared little chick, so his dad makes up a story about the brave Golden Chicken who lives in the mountains of Peru to try and help Chico not be afraid.  Chico decides that he wants to meet the Golden Chicken so he climbs up the tallest mountains to find him.  Along his journey he comes across a gang of bad llamas who laugh at his story of the Golden Chicken and point him to the highest peak.  When Chico gets to the top of the peak, there isn’t a Golden Chicken, and a big wind pushes Chico off the peak and he starts to soar through the sky.  When he finally comes down, it’s at his village that is being ransacked by the bad llamas, but they believe Chico to be the Golden Chicken and run away.

This is a great book about conquering our fears.  The illustrations are bright and Chico is someone we can all relate to in some way.
