Dad School by Rebecca Van Slyke, illustrated by Priscilla Burris - ADIVSABLE

Van Slyke, Rebecca.  Dad School, illustrated by Priscilla Burris.  PICTURE BOOK.  Doubleday Books for Young Readers (Random House), 2016.  $16.99.
A little boy goes to school to learn his alphabet and numbers.  His dad went to school too…dad school.  That’s where his dad learned how to be such an amazing dad.  At dad school, they covered the basics: how to fix boo-boos, plumbing, sandwich making, bike riding, big muscles, and “how to throw their kids up in the air and catch them.”  Dad school, however, neglected to teach dads how to match clothes or clean the bathroom.  Still, his dad must have been the top of his class at silly stories, ice cream sundaes, and piggy back rides.   His dad has another job, but being his most important job is being a dad.

The hand-drawn pencil line work illustrations are expressive and engaging.  The illustrations of “Dad school” are particularly charming.  A sweet tribute to dad’s that is sure to appeal to the entire family.  The author has also written, "Mom School."
