Gator Dad by Brian Lies - ADVISABLE

Lies, Brian.  Gator Dad.  PICTURE BOOK.  Houghton, Mifflin, Harcourt, 2016.  $17.99.
Gator Dad wakes up his little gator kids and tells them to “squeeze the day.”  The eat breakfast, run errands, and then go on adventures.  The first stop is the playground where they go up and down and back and forth.  They climb a log and fall into the water.  They splash home and to change and then sit on the sofa while Gator Dad reads them stories.  They play some more, take a bath, make a big mess, and Gator Dad puts them to bed.  Gator Dad gives them one last squeeze (a hug).

Author/illustrator Brian Lies creates a charming alligator world with an anthropomorphic family of gators.  Gator Dad is a great example of what a good dad should be: he takes care of his children, he plays with his children, and they go on adventures. The acrylic paint illustrations are detailed and inviting.  This book will appeal to little gators and their dads.
