Hall, Michael Frankencrayon. PICTURE BOOK. Greenwillow Books (HarperCollins), 2016. $17.99.
When their picture book is canceled due to a scribble on one of the pages, the crayons who had planned to perform in it are very disappointed. After all, they knew their lines and loved their costumes. What can they possibly do now?
The premise is cute and the illustrations are colorful and fun. The story seems a bit convoluted, however, and is likely to confuse many young readers. For a book about breaking the fourth wall, I would recommend The Book with No Pictures. And if sentient crayons are your thing, The Day the Crayons Quit would likely be a better option. (Though this might pair well with either one for a lesson on these themes.)
