Darling Dimple is an orphan
in the huge castle of Princess Mariposa.
Raised by Jane, another underservant of the castle, Darling spends her
days as an Under-Scrubber in the laundry.
That is – until the day the Head Presser needs a new Under-Presser and
Darling is promoted. There Darling meets
a pushy canary, but also finds a closet full of at least 100 beautiful dresses
that Princess Mariposa never uses. When
Darling is drawn to the closet, she tires on one of the dresses and something
amazing happens. Darling may just be
what is needed to save the kingdom from a traitor who has engineered a disaster
for the Princess.
If you can disregard the plot
holes, Darling is foolish and brave enough to make a credible heroine who is
fun to become acquainted with. From the
arrangemnt of the title it feels like this is supposed to become a series of
some kind, but I cannot guess what direction it might take.
