Alan the Alligator prides himself on being scary. That’s what he does all day - scares the animals in the jungle. But at night, he takes out his teeth because they are false teeth. When Barry the Beaver discovers Alan’s secret, he takes the teeth and tells the other animals. Now everyone is laughing at Alan and he certainly isn’t scary anymore. The animals make a deal with Alan, that changes his role in the jungle.
This is a really great picture book. The writing is terrific - the way Alan talks without his teeth is hilarious. The pictures are whimsical and bright, and tell as much of the story as the text does. A great choice for a pre-schooler.
