Corey, Shana The Secret Subway, illustrated by Red Nose Studio. PICTUREBOOK NON FICTION Schwartz & Wade, 2016. $17.99. Content: G.
Alfred Ely Beach had a dream. He wanted to build fan powered underground transportation in New York City in the late 1860s. But with so many ideas out there, gaining permission to construct an underground tunnel was too difficult, so Beach got permission to build a smaller tube system for delivering mail and secretly made an experimental tunnel to transport people! It was the first subway in New York City.
This non fiction picture book is illustrated with pictures of clay characters from Red Nose Studio. The book jacket back demonstrates how the illustrations were made. The story - a little known secret from history - is well written and reads like a performance, the page turns reveal suprises. This book is delightful!
