In this book Cub reporter is interviewing famous African American Track and Field Olympic Winner Wilma Rudolph. He discovers she had polio in childhood and had to recover use of a leg. Her high school and university accomplishments. Her wins at two different Olympics. How she took a stand against a hometown parade in her honor that was supposed to be segregated. She refused the parade unless everyone could be there together, no matter their race. They gave in and she was highly celebrated.
This series is growing on me. It’s a great clear biography with just enough information to make it manageable. I sort of wish there was just a tad more about their adult life (though its in a timeline in the back of the book). Just enough for a great lower grade report and a great start for an upper grade report. There are tons of photographs and bright page backgrounds. I am going to add this series to my buy list.
