Splat the Cats and the Quick Chicks by Laura Driscoll -- ADVISABLE

Driscoll, Laura (based on the creation by Rob Scotton) Splat the Cat and the Quick Chicks, illustrated by Robert Eberz. EARLY READER. HarperCollins, 2016. $16.99. Content: G.

Splat the Cat and his classmates have been eagerly monitoring their group of chicken eggs. When Splat is chosen to take the eggs home for safekeeping, he thinks it'll be an easy task. How much work can a dozen eggs and a heat lamp be, after all? But the next morning he wakes up to chicks instead of eggs. Fast chicks. Chicks who like to run everywhere and are tough to chase! Can Splat get all twelve rounded up and safely to school without losing a singe one?

This is a hilarious -- and rather zany -- addition to the series. Children who've ever had to care for a class pet or whose classes have ever hatched chicks will especially enjoy this one. Would be great as a general check-out, read-aloud, or in a leveled-reader library.

Pre-K, EL (K-3) -- ADVISABLE. Reviewer: Caryn
