The Baby Swap by Jan Ormerod - ADVISABLE

Ormerod, Jan. The Baby Swap, PICTURE BOOK. Little Simon, 2013. $16.99. Caroline the crocodile is very jealous of her new baby brother. Her mama is always telling her how wonderful the baby is. His scaly skin is perfect, he eats all of his fish and frogs, and his snout is so adorable. Caroline doesn’t agree. She thinks her baby brother is smelly. When Mama needs to exchange her new hat, she leaves Caroline in charge of the baby. Caroline decides to swap him for a new baby at The Baby Store. After going through many babies and trying to find one that will make Mama happy, Caroline decides that even though her brother is smelly and dribbly, he’s the right baby for her family. What a wonderful book for children with siblings. Those who have a younger brother or sister can relate to Caroline’s jealousy, and those who don’t can see why Caroline would be unhappy with losing her mama’s special attention. Mama Crocodile reminds Caroline how much she loves her at the end of the book, and the sweet pictures are just right.  Content: G. El (K-3), EL -ADVISABLE. Reviewed by: Shay, School Librarian
