George by Alex Gino - OPTIONAL

Gino, Alex George, 240 pgs. Scholastic Press, 2015. $16.99. Language: G; Mature Content: PG; Violence: G.

George is a fourth grader.  Inside George is a girl. She doesn't like having to use the boy's restroom at school, and she wants the part of the spider in the class play of Charlotte's Web. George has a big problem. George is a girl and no one knows it.  She's seen transgendered people on TV and wants to make the change, but will her mother understand? It’s not about being gay, it’s about not being a boy.

Heartwarming and sweet, the story is timely and poignant; one that hasn’t been told before.  Although the protagonist is young, this is for a bit older reader, and for someone interested in reading about this subject.
