Nelson-Schmidt, Michelle Dog and Mouse. PICTURE BOOK. Kane Miller (EDC Publishing), 2015. $12.99. Content: G.
Dog wants nothing more than to find a best friend, so Mouse volunteers to help her search for one. But when Dog and Mouse are separated one day, Dog realizes she's had a real best friend under her nose all along.
I love the premise of this book, its sweet surprise ending, and the simple-yet-colorful illustrations. However, the forced rhymes wreck the rhythm in a number of places and lead to some very convoluted sentences. As a result, it is a chore to read aloud and confusing for students to read to themselves.
