Clark, Stacy. When the Wind Blows, PICTURE BOOK. Holiday House, 2015. $16.95. A day at the beach is the starting point for listing the things that happen when the wind blows. Beach balls blow away, sea waves spray, and clouds change shape. These things eventually lead us to wind turbines. The blades on the turbines spin when the wind blows and the turbines create electricity which we use to warm our houses in the cold, charge up electric cars, help lighthouses shine, and power electrical train tracks. These things happen all because the wind blows. What an awesome source to use in the classroom when introducing wind power or the mechanics of turbines. The pictures are detailed and help the reader to understand the process of wind power and many of the things that we need electricity for in our world. This is a complex topic for many children and is presented in a very engaging way. Content: G. EL (K-3), EL -ADVISABLE. Reviewed by: Shay, School Librarian
