Voake, Charlotte
Melissa’s Octopus and Other Unsuitable Pets Candlewick Press, 2014. $16.99
PICTURE BOOK Content: G.
This book goes through different kids and
their unusual pets. Melissa has an
octopus, but it makes a mess in the bathtub and Betty loses her chameleon all
of the time. After listing many
unconnected, but equally as bizarre pets, Kevin and Bertrand bring home a
crocodile which is considered unsuitable because it might eat its owners.
The illustrations in this book are cute, but
there isn’t a connecting storyline, but rather a bunch of random ridiculous
pets. There isn’t anything to endear the
people or animals to the reader, and it just felt like reading a list of poor
pet choices.
