Howarth, Kylie. Fish Jam, PICTURE BOOK. Little Bee Books, 2015. $16.99. Jazz is a fish who likes to make music. He is always singing his nonsense songs, but no one else wants to hear them. He swims from place to place being shushed. One day, Jazz is swallowed by a whale. Once inside, he finds others who want to jam and he never has to play alone again. A great book for reminding kids to always follow their passion, even when many might try to silence them. The fun words Jazz uses to sing are onomatopoeia, and they will really engage young readers. The pictures in this book are colorful and eye-catching and the last page is a full spread pull-out of the whale. There is a description of “scat” in the back of the book, to go along with the theme of musical jazz. Content: G. EL (K-3) -ADVISABLE. Reviewed by: Shay, School Librarian
