The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater - ADVISABLE

Stiefvater, Maggie  The Raven Boys (Raven Boys, #1), 408 pgs.  Scholastic, 2012.  $9.99  Content: Language: R (36 swears; 9 “F”); Mature Content: PG; Violence: PG-13.

Gansey and his three best friends attend an elite boarding school and are known as the Raven Boys.  Gansey keeps the group together with his drive to find the ley line-a magical and powerful place where he hopes to find answers that he has been searching for.  While the Raven Boys are researching the ley line, they decide to try visiting a psychic and they befriend the psychic’s daughter Blue.  The boys and Blue encounter danger and obstacles in their attempt to find what they are looking for.

Stiefvater is an amazing writer.  Her descriptions make the characters feel real and by the time I got to the end of the book I loved all of them.  This is the first book in the series so many answers aren’t found, but I will continue to read the whole series, simply to spend more time with these great characters.  The language makes it advisable, otherwise it would be essential.

HS-ADVISABLE.  Reviewer, C. Peterson.
