Casey loves his
life, he lives with his dad and Pop at a school for Umpires. Of course it helps
that he loves watching baseball. He has a zany best friend who keeps life
interesting as well. Casey would love to be a reporter, and when a controversial
story falls in his lap, he really wants to use to prove himself to the school
newspaper, but he will need to thing about being objective and ethics.
Although this
story isn't about a boy that plays sports, there is plenty to love for a
baseball fan. I think students will be enchanted by the idea of living in a
such a non-traditional way –at a umpire school. The author does a wonderful job
of letting us get to know all the characters really well and is talented at
weaving in various small plotlines to make a really filled out story. Students
will be drawn in by the cover and really enjoy the story.
