Ball, Nate Radio Active (Alien in My Pocket #3), illustrated by Macky Pamintuan. 134 pgs. HarperCollins, 2014. $4.99. Content: PG.
Fourth-grader Zack McGee has a secret: a tiny alien named Amp recently crash-landed in his room, and is living there until he can a) call off an imminent attack on Earth and b) fix his spaceship and return home. To aid in both missions, Amp steals Zack's walkie talkie and attempts to transform it into a way to contact his home planet -- with disastrous results.
Radio Active is a funny adventure story with enough hijinks to keep readers wondering what will happen next. A lot of the humor depends on potty jokes, especially at the beginning. It was too much for my taste, but many kids will likely find it hilarious and enjoy learning new terms for farts and other bodily functions.
