Davies, Nicola The Lion Who Stole My Arm, 88 p. Candlewick, 2014. $15.
Life on the savanna is plenty dangerous, but for a boy who has lost his arm to a lion, it might be almost impossible. Perdu takes time to regain his strength, and carefully lays a trap for “his” lion. The lion his kills, however, has a radio collar, which leads him to a group of foreigners who are tracking the movements of the lions. Perdu would rather use the trackers to find and kill all of the lions, but he may just find that the lions can provide him with a new way of life.
This short book would be a perfect read-aloud for a 3rd of 4th grade class learning about predators, wild animals, or Africa. It is an up-to-the-minute look at the relationship between man and wild.
