Morgan lives on Internment, an island in the
sky that is separate from earth and if any attempt to escape it, they will
suffer great harm or possibly die.
Morgan’s brother Lex has attempted this escape, and is now blind, which
is why it baffles Morgan that she feels the need to look over the edge and
wants to know what is beyond her world of Internment. When a murder is committed on the island and
the murderer’s betrothed is accused, Morgan finds herself helping the accused
murderer and uncovering the hidden ways that Internment is kept “safe”.
This is an interesting idea with a creative
world. The main character isn’t my
favorite because her motivations are completely confusing—the horrors of going
to the edge are emphasized throughout, but as to why Morgan is willing to give
up her great friends and loving family to go to the edge is never fully
explored. Morgan is a selfish character
who makes rash decisions, disregarding her cute betrothed and loyal best
friend, so that the plot can be furthered.
The ending is completely unsatisfying, but this is the first book in a new series.
