Freddie & Gingersnap by Vincent X. Kirsch- ADVISABLE
Kirsh, Vincent X. Freddie & Gingersnap. PICTURE
BOOK. Disney-Hyperion, 2014. $16.99. Freddie is a little dinosaur who wonders
what it would be like to be big and tall and have your heads almost touch the
clouds. Gingersnap is a little dragon
who isn’t so sure that flying is as easy as it looks. Although dinosaurs and dragons are NOT supposed
to be friends, Freddie and Gingersnap find themselves in a predicament as they
both land in the same spot on the ground. They stare eye to eye. They scowl and they growl at each other. They click, they clack. They snip, they snap. And then something magical happens. This is a cute story about two creatures
attempting something new and dreaming of reaching new heights. They find a welcomed surprise of friendship
that is totally unexpected. The story is
creative and tender. The artwork is
unique and mostly bold, bright colors on a white background. The book could be used in a unit on
friendship or attitudes and emotions. Pre-K. EL (K-3).
ADVISABLE. Reviewer:SL.
