Tim gets in trouble when he tells the truth. A squid really did take his backpack. So Tim lies, confessing to every wrong doing that wasn’t done by him. He still gets in trouble. Finally Tim invites all the trouble-making monkeys, ninjas, squids and more to meet his parents. Now that he has proof, he finally doesn’t have to be in trouble!
This was a cute twist on a Boy who Cried Wolf. Truth and lies are given an interesting perspective. I like that the result leads to the need for gathering and presenting proof and evidence! The artwork is the unique and clean style as typical of this author/illustrator, featuring harmonious colors presented on large pages. It occurs to me that this book might be a fun way to introduce third graders to the concept of Research; why its so important to have evidence.
