Templeman, McCormick The Glass Casket, 336 p. Delacorte, 2014. $18. Violence: PG-13 (about 20 deaths, victims drained of blood, throats slit, organs removed).
People around Rowan are dying and her best friend Tom is acting very, very peculiarly. When the kings soldiers pass through the village, it is days before their riderless horses race back through the village in terror. All of the men are dead. Unfortunately this is just the beginning of a period of terror for the village. The soldiers’ deaths are not the last deaths the village must endure. Templeman serves a gothic novel where the darker elements hold the spotlight. While there is a romance or two of sorts, they are firmly background material. Everyone has secrets - deadly secrets.
Your high school students who love the macabre will adore this.
