Tallulah's Nutcracker by Marilyn Singer - ESSENTIAL

Singer, Marilyn Tallulah’s Nutcracker  Illustrated by Alexandra Boiger Clarion Books, 2013.  $16.99  PICTURE BOOK Content: G.

Tallulah is an adorable little girl who is excited when she gets chosen to be a mouse in the Nutcracker ballet.  She works tirelessly and misses out on family Christmas fun so she can be perfect for her part, but the night of the ballet she trips on a mouse tail of the dancer in front of her and causes a pile up on stage.  She quickly recovers and finishes dancing her part, but is mortified by her mistake and reconsiders dancing anymore, but the Sugar Plum Fairy and Clara from the Nutcracker recall their ballet blunders from other performances and Tallulah decides that she will keep working at her dancing.

This is an adorable children’s book about working hard and forgiving yourself when you make mistakes.  The main character has a positive attitude and I think young readers will relate to her excitement and passion for dance.  The illustrations are fabulous and it’s a great addition to your Christmas collection as well.
