Kai and Gerda are best friends, but one night
snow blows into the room and Kai gets a piece of magic in his heart and eye
that cause him to follow the Snow Queen.
Gerda goes on a long journey and meets many people in her attempts to
bring Kai home. Eventually her love of
him breaks the magic spell and they are able to return home.
The illustrations are magnificent in this
version of The Snow Queen. There is a
lot of text, but it gives enough detail about Gerda’s journey to make it worth
all of her efforts to get to Kai. My
preschool boys managed to sit through the whole book because of how intriguing
the illustrations are, but the story is intended for elementary kids. This is a beautiful telling of the Snow
Queen, so if you are in need of an updated version this is a great one.
