Schneider, Josh Bedtime Monsters 32
pgs. Clarion Books, 2013. $16.99 Content: Language: G (0 swears); Mature
Content: G; Arnold is afraid of monsters. After he goes to bed, he must confront one. He quickly
learns there is something the monster he is so afraid of, is itself afraid of
something even worse. It asks to crawl into bed with him, and together they
confront the next monster. Gradually the best gets pretty crowded and Arnold
discovers that sometimes the scariest thing is yourself!
This author has
a unique perspective that makes his stories really quirky and interesting. So I read a monster under the best story for Halloween and the students were so
filled with terror that I feel like I may have introduced the topic to a large
group of students who had never known about a monster under the bed before.
Oops, not good. I think this book is best read to a child who already has that fear and needs
some help overcoming it. That being said, I am a big fan of this author and
will keep my eye out for future books on other topics.
