Dubosarsky, Ursula The Golden Day, 149 p. Candlewick,
2013. $16. Mature Content: PG.
Eleven little girls are taken by their
teacher to explore a beach cave with a man who tends the local gardens. The girls never see their teacher again. Honestly, I am having a hard time figuring
out for whom this book is intended.
Lengthwise, it is more of a novella, so there is not enough there for an
adult to grab onto anything of interest.
It is about girls who are about 9 or 10, but thematically it is not
intended for them. Maybe a high school
Language Arts teacher would use this as a supplemental text, but it is not very
complex structurally or linguistically.
I would love to hear other opinions or ideas on this one.
NO.
