Rueda, Claudia Is It
Big or Is It Little? Eerdmans Books for Young Readers, 2013. $14.00
PICTURE BOOK Content: G.
This is a book showing opposites by comparing
a little mouse and a cat. Something that
is little to a cat might seem big to a mouse.
A string might seem long, except when the cat can easily jump it and
then it’s too short. Each page layout
has a short question like, “Is it light or is it heavy?” and then shows the
difference of the same thing to two different sized animals (usually the cat
and mouse).
The book only uses black,
white and orange in the illustrations which makes it bold. The overall effect of the story is short and
choppy and the comparison of deep/shallow was a stretch compared to the other
more obvious opposites displayed. It’s a
good idea and might be fun to talk about size with kids.
