Beth has been crushing on Salvador since the eighth grade.  He is Mr. Perfect at her high school--the student body president, quarterback of the football team that took state and an all around good guy.  Beth is super smart, but really unorganized, making her known as the walking disaster.  When Salvador finds out he has to take AP English, he struggles with the assignments, and has to seek help from Beth.  She pushes him to see life differently and to write about it in his essays.  Together, they find more in common than either one of them expected, but being together isn’t going to be easy.

This is a story of two teens who have studied and worked to better themselves.  They overcome cultural and social barriers to earn the opportunity to attend college, but their emotional challenges cause bumps in the road.  This is more than a teen romance, even though that part is fun, it’s about following your own dreams and believing in yourself and others.  The book is clean enough for middle school, but the characters are seniors in high school.
