Rump by Liesl Shurtliff - ADVISABLE

Shurtliff, Liesl Rump: The True Story of Rumpelstiltskin, 258 pgs. Alfred A. Knopf, 2013. Language - G, Sexual Content - G; Violence - PG;

Rump doesn't know his destiny or even his whole name. None of this changes until the fateful day Rump finds his late mother's spinning wheel. After that, Rump spins himself into a tangled mess too complicated for him to undo on his own. But it is only by untangling the mess that Rump will discover his destiny.

This version of Rumpelstiltskin is outstanding! The original story of Rumpelstiltskin has never made sense to me, but Shurtliff gives each seemingly random part of the fairytale a purpose in her re-telling. I loved seeing my childhood version of Rumpelstiltskin unfold into a tale of adventure and discovery.
