Lobel, Anita Lena's Sleep Sheep 24 pgs. Alfred A. Knopf, 2013. $11.99. PICTURE BOOK.
When it's time for bed, Lena leaves her curtains open so she can see the full moon outside her window. Unfortunately, the moon's face scares the sheep she usually calls forth to count at night, and they refuse to come out. When she finds a solution that allows her to count her sheep and still watch the moon, she is finally able to fall asleep.
In a world filled with wonderful books about sleep, this one seems underwhelming. The pictures are stiff and not as appealing as they could be. In several of them, the moon looks downright mean, which doesn't exactly convey the sweet, easy, pre-bed feeling many parents want to instill in the evening.
