From What I Remember...by Stacy Kramer and Valerie Thomas - OPTIONAL

Kramer, Stacy and Valerie Thomas From What I Remember…, 462 pgs.  Hyperion, 2012.  $16.99  Content: Language: R (185+ swears; 25 “F”); Mature Content: PG-13 (sexual language; gay relationships); Violence: PG.

Kylie is the valedictorian of her school and she and her best friend, Will, can’t wait to be done with high school life.  Kylie, who has never mixed well with the other students, is given an assignment two days before the last day of school to write an essay with a partner, and her partner is Max, one of the most popular kids at school.  While Kylie and Max are meeting about their paper at the coffee shop, Kylie’s backpack is stolen, with her computer and valedictorian speech inside.  Kylie chases the culprit, and Max decides to help her.  The chase turns into a crazy overnight stay in Mexico where Kylie and Max learn more about each other and themselves and their lives will change forever.

If you can get over the swearing, this isn’t a bad teen romance.  The characters are fun and there are times I laughed out loud.  It’s a touch predictable and an unbelievable situation overall, but most teens will get past that part of the book.  The cover doesn’t represent the book very well.

HS-OPTIONAL.  Reviewer, C. Peterson.
