Slightly Invisible by Lauren Child -ESSENTIAL

Child, Lauren Slightly Invisible, 40 pgs. Candlewick, 2011. $11.32. EARLY READER
In this story Charlie is an older brother with a problem, his little sister Lola. Like most little sisters, she wants to be play with him and his friends, and they don’t really have much in common. Charlie doesn’t usually mind, but sometime he just wants to hang out with his friend Marv, by themselves. They like to hunt for strange and terrifyingly tricky creatures. Lola is determined to interfere –will she burn up the last of Charlie’s patience or will she turn the tables on him? Armed with pink milk, her stuffed rabbit, and a new invisible friend, Lola is about to find out. (Hint: Try to find Lola's invisible friend as you read!)
I loved this book and I think early readers will enjoy it too. (You may not get it back!). The plot has a lesson, but it’s incredibly subtle, which I like. The characters are unique and established within just a few pages. Adding to the fun is creative use of text placement and a unique art style. The availability of other books with these same characters is valuable, along with the attention it would garner thanks to the popular TV series. Highly recommended.
