Tower of Treasure by Scott Chantler –ADVISABLE

Chantler, Scott Tower of Treasure. (Book 1: Tower of Treasure), 112 pgs. Kids Can Press, 2010. $14.00. GRAPHIC NOVEL.
Three traveling circus friends decide to rob a queen. Fourteen-year-old Dessa the acrobat, Topper the juggler, and Fisk the strongman are in for more than they bargained for. Standing in their way are a secure tower, traps, and determined guards. Matters get more complex when Dessa spots an evil man, who years before, was responsible for the kidnap of her twin brother and the loss of her home and family. Readers will want to find out if Dessa can unravel the mystery of her past and if the trio can come out of their robbery alive. While this novel is fantasy in that some of the characters are not human, there is no magic so far in the series, and the setting is medieval.
This graphic novel was fun and entertaining! I enjoyed the fast pace and the characters. The artwork and the scenes cuts show both a flair for action and personality infusion. My only complaint is that the story felt like an introduction, since it was a single incident and was a quick read. If you purchase this, plan on getting more in the series when they come out.
