Maclachlan, Patricia and Charest, Emily Maclachlan and illustrated by Schneider, Katy I didn’t do it, 32 pgs. Katherine Tegen Books, 2010. $11.55.
A collection of poems from a dog’s point of view. How one dog feels about rules. Another dog describes what they don’t like. A puppy talks about what it would name itself given a choice. And of course, a couple of pups tell us that they didn’t do it. (it was the cat! or another dog from down the street).
This lovingly illustrated book is full of simple prose that is slightly lyrical and pure sweetness. Students will love the lack of structure to the poetry and the dog point of view. The words are simple, so they are easy to read and understand.
