Davis, Anne No Dogs Allowed 32 pgs. HarperCollins, 2011. $11.55 EARLY READER
Bud is a cat that is set in his ways. He likes hanging out with his cat buddy Gabby, eating cheese and crackers and playing in the trees. When Cookie the dog shows up, it seems like everything changes, for the worse. Not only do Gabby and Cookie become friends, but Cookie interferes with everything, like sitting on Bud’s chair and licking the cat bowl. So Bud sends Cookie away. But when a great dark storm arrives, Gabby isn’t the only cat that is worried. Will Bud overcome his dislike and find a way to make a space for Cookie in his life?
The story is simple and cute. The text is easy to read and enjoyable. Though the artwork had an abstract sloppy feel, which usually isn’t my favorite, the colors are cheerful, and they illustrate the plot well. A beginning reader would enjoy this book.
