Claybourne, Anna Scanorama Dinosaurs, 30
pages. Silver Dolphin (Quarto), 2016. $19.
This interactive book contains a ton of information about a wide
variety of dinosaurs. It groups them in a number of ways: Hunter, Fish-eating,
Teeny, Flying, Beaked, Duck-Billed, Armored and more. Most of the facts are
little blurbs and interesting things, and some lift the tab images. The big
draw here is the four interactive x-ray pages that allow readers to see the
bones of a dinosaur by moving a slider.
I rated this book as optional only because integrative books tend to
get trashed easily especially in a library situation. I do think students would
really love this book though. Its well written and interesting and the illustrations are engaging and well crafted. One thing that
could be done to make this book work for you library is to show the student who
is checking the book out how to carefully move the sliders. (or as a class).
