Pete’s Dragon: The Lost Years by Elizabeth Rudnick - OPTIONAL

Rudnick, Elizabeth Pete’s Dragon: The Lost Years, 175 pages. Disney Press. 2016. $16.99.

Language: G. (0 swears, 0 "f"); Mature Content: G; Violence: G;

The Lost Years fills in the gaps of what happened to Pete that aren't previously known. At five years old, Pete finds himself alone in the forest to fend for himself after his parents were killed in the car accident. Pete was scared and alone and finds an unlikely dragon friend. Elliot saves Pete from a pack of wolves and afterwards they start a new life together.

For fans of Pete's Dragon, this book is a prequel worth reading. Elliot is suddenly alone in foreign surroundings, and Pete is lonely and misses companionship. While this was an enjoyable, easy read, I found myself doubting Pete's abilities to do things that were beyond his years.

EL - OPTIONAL. Reviewer: Amy, Elementary Teacher.
