Pablo in the Snow by Teri Sloat - ADVISABLE

Sloat, Teri Pablo in the Snow, illustrated by Rosalinde Bonnet. PICTURE BOOK.  Christy Ottaviano Books (Macmillan), 2017. $16.99. Content:  G.

Pablo the sheep wakes up to see snow for the first time.  Instead of going back to sleep like his parents tell him to, he wanders out into the snow.  While outside he learns many things about what snow is and makes new friends too.  But as the snow falls faster Pablo cannot find his way back home.  Fortunately, his parent find him and bring him back to the cozy barn.

This book will be a great winter read-aloud.  It works well for discussing winter and first experiences with snow.  Students will be able to relate to the winter activities that Pablo engages in.  On the last page Pablo thinks, “Snow is for big adventures….” Which leaves off for a great writing prompt.
