Malbrough, Mike. Marigold Bakes a Cake, PICTURE BOOK. Philomel Books, 2017. $17.99.
Marigold the cat absolutely loves to organized and schedules everything. He also absolutely loves Mondays because Mondays are baking day. He gets himself all prepared in his kitchen and makes sure he will have no interruptions. Except on this Monday, he continues to have many, many interruptions. The birds in the neighborhood insist on trying to bake with him. He finally gets so flustered that he decides to go for a walk. While he’s gone those birds do whatever they can to get a cake baked. When Marigold returns he sees his mess of a kitchen and the crazy cake the birds baked. He decides to help them learn how to bake, but only to find… Birds just can’t bake.
The illustrations in this books are really fun to look at and have a soft quality to them, with some bright spots. The story is funny and the twist at the end, that the birds really cannot bake, is fun a surprise.
