Joseph is a little boy who is learning a lot from his Grandfather and the things he has accomplished with his hands. As part of this he learns that those caring hands were not allowed to bake bread at the Wonderbread factory. So those same hands started a petition and change as part of the Civil Rights movement.
I am not sure how I ended up with a 2011 story, but this is a beautiful story!! Its simple enough for a Civil Rights lesson for younger grades and is incredibly relatable for them due to the grandparent/grandchild aspect. I was very moved reading this story and its already in a teachers hands to read to her class as I finish this review. The illustrations are top notch. This is a must have book for a school library!
