Appelfeld, Aharon Adam & Thomas, 149 pgs. Seven Stories Press, 2015. $18.95. Language G: (0 swears); Mature Content: G; Violence: PG.
Adam and Thomas are nine-years-old, their mothers have left them in the woods to hide from the German soldiers during World War II. They manage to find each other and build a nest in a tree where they can be safe. Adam is brave, Thomas is smart, but worries a lot. Can the boys survive?
Translated from Hebrew, this story of bravery and patience by two young boys seems like a miracle. An uplifting, hopeful story, the narrative may be a bit old fashioned for young readers.
