Miura, Taro The Big
Princess. PICTURE BOOK. Candlewick Press, 2013, $14.99. Content: G
A king and queen could not have children of their own. One night the king had a dream that a
princess would be delivered to their garden.
The princess would be under a spell and if the spell was broken, the
little girl would belong to the king and queen and if the spell was not broken
then the kingdom would fall into ruin.
The next day, the king found a small princess in the garden. The beautiful child grew and grew day after
day until she was too big to fit in the castle. The king remembered his dream
and desperately found a way to break the spell.
The idea of a child growing day by day would be more appealing to a
parent watching their child grow up and lamenting how quickly that is
happening, but children will enjoy the bright and graphic nature of the
pictures.
