This is the story of a cat who loves its independence, though he has friends who have made the decision to adopt a human, its just not what he’s interested in doing, too much work. In between adventures and time with animal friends, he avoids the animal catcher and looks for food. When he meets a new girl to the neighborhood he doesn’t mind training her up a bit, though not officially adopting her, just in order to get tuna and treats. But when she is sad, the treats stop, and the cat must figure out what to do in order to get more treats, this means getting to know humans more than he would like. Will the cat ever adopt a human?
This is an ADORABLE book that was so much fun to read. It is a boon for a reluctant 1-3 grade readers. I keep an eye out for books like this because though it doesn’t necessarily appeal to just to girls, I don’t have many girls who are interested in other reluctant reader gems like Big Nate and Captain Underpants. It features a mix of text and illustrations that make the 100 pages fly by. The point of view is interesting, the world is fleshed out, and the ending is fantastic. I just want to give this book a big hug and I am deathly allergic to cats!
