Inventing a better weapon for war, one that is lightweight, fires quickly and can process a lot of ammunition without jamming, led John Thompson to develop a handheld machine gun. Finished too late for WWI, the US army wasn’t interested, but it quickly became popular with police and gangsters.
This is a fascinating read. The history of the gangsters, the FBI and Hollywood’s portrayal of this dangerous weapon are seamlessly woven together to make a complete story, Historians, gun enthusiasts, war and gangster enthusiasts will all love this book.
