Ewert, Marcus Mummy Cat, illustrated by Lisa Brown. PICTUR BOOK.
Clarion Books (Houghton), 2015.
$17.
Once each century, the mummy cat of Queen Hat-Shup-set comes
alive and looks to see if his loving master has also awoken to keep him
company.
Okay – its not as adorable as the stories of the dogs who
wait for their masters to come home after serving at war, but as a cat person,
I find the sentiment endearing. The
Egyptian setting is well drawn and any reader can learn a lot about ancient
culture just by being observant. The
cat’s sadness for life without his master shines through clearly.
EL (K-3) – ADVISABLE.
