Maggie loves her life on her families Rocky Mountain ranch, its
hard work but she is interested in nature and never bored. Haydn, her cousin,
is a bit snobby and jaded. When he comes to visit, Maggie is not happy. But
things go from bad to worse as an accident turns into an argument and Hayden
sets off on his own. When an epic snowstorm hits, the two children find
themselves facing life threatening danger, can they pull together to save each
other?
Sometimes these kinds of fast paced adventure stories can leave
characters to the wayside in an effort to keep the action going, this book has
a good balance of the two. The characters are easy to relate to, interesting, and the
setting is fully fleshed out. This series and others that are similar are quite
popular in my school library with 3rd grade and up, I like the addition of a bit of real history
(some have more than others).
