Yaccarino, Dan Billy
and Goat at the State Fair Knopf, 2015. $16.99 PICTURE BOOK
Even though Bill and his friend Goat do things differently, they
still enjoy each other’s company. One day they decide to go to the state fair
so Goat can enter the Best Goat competition. Though things start out right with
the pair going straight through to the competition, Goat is too excited by the
prospect of an adventure, so Billy and Goat enjoy all the state fair has to
offer.
This isn’t a book that would work for every school library. It works
for my school library because we are close to the State Fair grounds and every
summer students are given the opportunity to earn a free ticket by reading. It
an adorable book that features many of the offerings of a typical state fair
with a message about friendship and enjoying company of others over
competition. Children will be drawn to the bright yet harmonious colors of the
adorable artwork.
